Ultrasounds
For your convenience, we offer in-office ultrasounds by an experienced technician. Ultrasounds are used to evaluate and monitor pregnancies, and can also be used to diagnose and evaluate gynecologic conditions such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, irregular bleeding, and pelvic pain.
Ultrasounds use low-power sound waves to capture images. There is no radiation exposure from an ultrasound, so this is why they are safe in pregnancy. During a transabdominal ultrasound, gel is applied to your skin and this helps produce a clearer image. The gel is water-based and can be easily removed from skin or clothing if necessary. Sometimes a transvaginal ultrasound is needed to evaluate a pregnancy or a gynecologic condition.
