Postpartum Care
The postpartum period is often referred to as the "fourth trimester" because you do not immediately return to your pre-pregnancy state after delivery. Many new moms experience anxiety, fatigue, and pain in the first few weeks after giving birth, and postpartum appointments give you the opportunity to express any and all of your concerns with your provider.
If you had any problems during your pregnancy such as gestational diabetes or high blood pressure, your provider will evaluate these conditions now that you are postpartum and discuss how these may impact your health in the future. Another thing to discuss at your postpartum appointment is the timing of future pregnancies or what method of contraception you want to use.
