PCOS
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder that leads to irregular or infrequent ovulation. It is diagnosed if you have 2 out of the 3 signs or symptoms below (and no other cause is identified):
Irregular periods ( < 9 periods per year)
Elevated androgens (male hormones, i.e. testosterone)
Ovaries showing multiple, small, immature follicles on ultrasound
Because PCOS affects ovulation, it can be difficult for someone with PCOS to get pregnant. PCOS also increases your risk for other chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, so it is important to be evaluated regularly.
The treatment for PCOS varies depending on your particular symptoms, other health problems, and goals related to getting pregnant. Our providers will help find the appropriate management plan for you.
