Male Factor Infertility
Almost half of all infertility cases are due to male factor infertility. For this reason, it is important to investigate both partners when a couple is having trouble getting pregnant. A semen analysis is commonly ordered to evaluate for male factor infertility.
Some causes of male factor infertility include poor sperm quality, low sperm count or no sperm, varicocele, genetic diseases, certain medical conditions (i.e. diabetes), testicular trauma, some medications, and unhealthy habits (i.e. smoking, alcohol use, drug use).
