Irregular Periods
It can be normal for your period to come every 21-35 days and last from 3-7 days each time. If you are skipping periods, bleeding in between periods, or have heavy or painful periods, our providers can help with diagnosis and treatment.
If you are trying to get pregnant and do not have a monthly period, this can be difficult. Your body will only have a true period if ovulation has occurred. And you can only get pregnant through normal sexual intercourse if you ovulate.
Ovulation is the release of an egg. After ovulation occurs, your hormone levels rise in anticipation of fertilization. The lining on the inside of your uterus thickens in anticipation of implantation. When fertilization does not occur, your hormone levels drop which signals your body to slough off the uterine lining (aka have a period). This process does not occur if ovulation did not happen.
Regular and predictable periods mean you are ovulating at a predictable time. The better you are able to predict timing of ovulation, the easier it is to properly time intercourse to give yourself the highest chance of getting pregnant each month.
