Hereditary Cancer Testing
Most cases of cancer are NOT hereditary, however, there are some gene mutations that can be passed down from your parents that increase your risk for cancer. A single blood test can be done in our office that identifies if you carry any gene mutations that increase your risk for cancer (i.e. BRCA).
You should strongly consider hereditary cancer testing if:
You have a personal or family history of any of these types of cancer: breast, ovarian, uterine, pancreatic, prostate, colon, gastric, or melanoma.
You have a family member with a known hereditary cancer gene mutation
You are of Eastern or Central European Jewish ancestry
You have an unknown family history (i.e. adopted)
It is helpful to understand your personal risk of cancer so that certain preventative and protective measures can be implemented.
